The northern region of Norway is ideally located to capture expected increase in maritime activity from the Northeast Passage. Hammerfest and Polarbase is a central location for activities in the Barents Sea
Northern Norway comprises the parts of Norway situated above the Arctic circle, including part of Nordland County and the county of Troms & Finnmark. The region is characterized by long distances and smaller communities. The largest cities and urban areas are Bodø, Narvik, Harstad, Tromsø, Alta and Hammerfest.
Hammerfest is one of the world’s northernmost cities. Fisheries has traditionally been the most important industry. More recently, oil and gas has become the dominant industry and employer, shaping the local community. Hammerfest has approximately 11,400 inhabitants. The city offers a strategic location for offshore operations in the Barents Sea with its close proximity to oil gas fields Goliat Snøhvit, Johan Castberg and Wisting. In addition, the region is ideally located to capture expected increase in maritime activity from the Northeast Passage going forward.
Polarbase is an established supply base with proven track record of serving producing assets in the Barents Sea, located just 5 minutes from Hammerfest city center. The Barents Sea has the most undiscovered petroleum resources on the NCS, with companies such as Lundin Energy and Equinor currently actively drilling exploration wells in the region.
ABP holds a central location in the Arctic offshore hub of Hammerfest, with two modern offices in the city center, as well as an industrial facility overlooking Polarbase. In addition, ABP owns Mack’s brewery facility in Nordkjosbotn outside Tromsø.
Hammerfest City Center
Hammerfest is the host municipality for Equinor’s LNG facility (Snøhvit) and Vår Energi’s regional and local office and operating organization for the Goliat field. The city is strategically located to serve the activities in the Barents Sea. The interest in exploration in the Barents Sea has increased significantly following the exciting discoveries in recent years: Wisting, Gotha and Alta. Hammerfest is now the largest oil and gas cluster in the northern parts of Norway.
ABP acquired two modern office buildings in the city center in 2016, which are let to Vår Energi, Apply and Offshore Health Services
Polarbase
Polarbase is located about 4km from Hammerfest city center. It is the only supply base covering the Barents Sea, and the base with the largest concentration of suppliers to the oil & gas industry in northern Norway. The base has 5 quays with a total length of 500m, including a deep-water quay. ABP owns a combined office and workshop facility let to Baker Hughes overlooking Polarbase.
Nordkjosbotn, Tromsø
In 2022, ABP acquired Mack’s brewery facility in Nordkjosbotn, located 70 kilometres south-east of Tromsø. The property is strategically located along E6 and E8, which ideally serves Mack’s main caption area in Northern Norway.
The property, which is the world's northernmost industrial brewery, consists of 19,300 sqm. gross lettable area with outdoor storage and parking on 50,500 sqm. plot. The property was built by Mack in 2012 and is custom built for their operational needs. Moreover, the facility has been a strong contributor to Mack's increased market share both locally and nationally. Mack has recently invested in upgraded machinery and equipment on the property, which has significantly increased the brewery's efficiency.
The acquisition of Mack’s brewery strengthens ABP’s presence in Northern Norway, where ABP owns several mission critical industrial properties, including three properties in Hammerfest.
